The best way to make a jigsawpuzzle to me, would be to model a flat box,
then in several layers make some polygons that you use to cut (using stencil
tool, press CTRL-R) the box into seven shapes. Name all the upper polygons
"UP" or something.
Copy and paste every thus formed piece into another layer and save under
different names. Remember to write down the size of the whole puzzle. In
Layout load all the pieces in; they should be fitting if you did everything
right. Now texturemap the surface "UP" with the picture you want, making it
a planar map in the Y direction, with the size the same as the size of the
puzzle. Make sure the center coordinates are right.
